Why to take the English Placement Test?

At the beginning, let’s focus on the placement test itself. The placement test is not a test that you can pass or fail. You also will not get a good or bad mark in this kind of the test. You should not be anxious that somebody will judge you. The English Placement Test measures your English ability, especially when it comes to English grammar or English vocabulary. Taking such a test is very useful when you want to check your approximate level of your English proficiency. Such knowledge will help you recognise what areas you have already mastered and what areas still need some improvements and more engagement. What’s more, knowing your approximate English level will help you find appropriate content and appropriate exercises for your English ability. Discovering your current English skills will also help you find a particular class or group if you are going to take a course in English.

I have prepared this free online test for you so that you can check where you are with your English skills. Thanks to this English Placement Test you can evaluate your approximate English proficiency yourself. You can take this test once in a while to check if you have improved.

What does the English Placement Test Look Like?

The English Placement test contains 100 questions and it covers five English levels: Beginner, Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate, Upper-Intermediate and Advanced. Each level consists of twenty questions. The test mainly deals with English grammar but also includes a wide range of English vocabulary, phrasal verbs, expressions and idioms. You can expect all different types of questions, not only multiple-choice but also filling the gaps, writing short expressions or transformations.

How to do the English Placement test?

As I mentioned before, that is not a kind of a test where you get a grade. This is only for your own information, for your own knowledge. Doing this test be honest with yourself, don’t use any help. Don’t use any books, any dictionaries or don’t ask anybody else for help. Be with your own and check your real English skills.

There are 100 questions and there is no time limit. You can take as much time as you need. This is a free online test, you don’t need to pay for it. The test starts with the Beginner level and finishes with the Advanced one. The questions are in order and there is no possibility to move back. When you encounter some questions you have no idea how to answer them that is probably the end of your test. Finish there and check your score. The result will be given at the end of the test, there you will find out your approximate English level.

One more thing. Remember, this test is not a real exam, you will not get any certificate that can prove your English qualifications. The information about your level is approximate. The real exam that certifies your English qualifications does not only deal with English grammar and English vocabulary but it also involves reading, listening and speaking comprehension. If you are interested in getting such a certificate you can find some more information about it here.

All in all, sit down comfortably, gather your thoughts, focus on the task and get started! Do the free online test, find out your approximate level and let us know your result. I hope this test is the next step in improving your English qualifications.
